The tour begins at the traditional Hotel Reichshof, which, like the Hamburg subway, opened in 1906. Your guide will warmly welcome you and introduce you to the impressive history of this listed building, once built for emigrants. Here, you will also receive your mobile tour system with headphones before you set off!

Discover the exciting history of the elevated railway, accompanied by historical photos and interesting background stories. Much of the route runs above ground, offering you fantastic views of the city.

Along the way, we’ll hop off the train several times to view historical images firsthand and get to know the districts along the route better.

Your guide will welcome you and provide an introduction to this remarkable hotel, originally built for emigrants and still preserved in its original grandeur. You’ll then receive your mobile audio guide system with headphones.

Follow your guide to the subway and uncover fascinating details about the construction of the elevated railway. Learn about the history of the neighborhoods along the route through historical photos and engaging anecdotes.

Much of the tour takes place on elevated tracks, offering stunning views of the city. At several stations, we’ll disembark to view historical photos directly on the platforms.

From the Hoheluft station, enjoy a short walk under the weather-protected elevated railway viaduct to the next station. Here, you’ll hear stories about the Hoheluft district and the famous Isemarkt, before continuing the subway journey.

In Barmbek, you’ll discover the history of Hamburg’s first elevated railway depot, which included its own power plant and headquarters.
