Your Ostalgie tour through the former GDR
The tour begins at the imposing Karl-Marx-Allee – the symbol of socialist realism and the “grand boulevard” of the GDR. Here, learn how exclusive apartments and restaurants from socialist sister countries shaped the landscape. Our first stop is the former Stasi headquarters on Frankfurter Allee, where our guide Anna, herself a contemporary witness, shares fascinating and personal stories from the era of surveillance.
Along the Tierpark, you’ll reach the Berlin-Karlshorst Museum , where the German surrender was signed in 1945. Here, impressive exhibits, such as a Soviet tank, provide insights into the final days of World War II. A subsequent walk through Treptower Park takes you to the monumental Soviet War Memorial—a memorial to the fallen soldiers of the Soviet Union.
On the return journey, you will experience the transformation of Berlin: from the former border fortifications to the lively Kreuzberg district SO36, past central sights such as Checkpoint Charlie, Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate, to the striking TV tower at Alexanderplatz.
